Chris Evans is reportedly making a highly anticipated return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Avengers: Doomsday, joining Robert Downey Jr. in the upcoming film. Although it is unclear whether Evans will reprise his iconic role as Captain America or take on another character, his return is generating significant buzz.

Evans’ last appearance as Captain America was in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which seemed to conclude his character’s arc. However, Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom, confirmed earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, has opened new possibilities in the MCU, leading to Evans’ reappearance.

Earlier in 2024, Evans made a brief cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, but not as Captain America—instead, he appeared as Johnny Storm from Fantastic Four, only to be killed off by Cassandra Nova.

The excitement around Avengers: Doomsday is heightened by the involvement of MCU veterans, including directors Joe and Anthony Russo, known for their work on Avengers films and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Their return adds to the anticipation of a major Avengers reunion.

While Avengers: Doomsday won’t hit theaters until May 1, 2026, Marvel Studios is first set to release Captain America: Brave New World on February 14, 2025.
