Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood producer, has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a form of bone marrow cancer, according to US media reports. The 72-year-old is currently undergoing treatment in a New York prison, where he is serving time for rape and sexual assault convictions. The diagnosis comes just a month after he was indicted on new sex crime charges.

Weinstein’s health has been a matter of concern in recent years. Earlier in July, he was transferred from jail to a hospital to address several serious conditions, including COVID-19, pneumonia, diabetes, and heart-related issues. This is not the first time Weinstein has faced significant health challenges, having contracted COVID-19 during his imprisonment in 2020.

Despite his legal battles and health issues, Weinstein has denied any non-consensual sexual encounters. In February 2020, he was convicted of rape, a landmark case that fueled the #MeToo movement. However, his conviction was overturned by the New York Court of Appeals earlier this year, and he is now awaiting a retrial.

Weinstein also faces multiple other charges, including sexual assault and rape, to which he has pleaded not guilty. Known for producing films like Shakespeare in Love, Good Will Hunting, and Django Unchained, Weinstein’s once-powerful career has been overshadowed by the ongoing legal proceedings and his deteriorating health.
